Blast from the Past: SURS Underfunding Warning From 1991

Thanks to one of our readers for sending this one in: a 1991 editorial in the Northern Star talking about the under-funding of SURS that has been going on since 1981. The article warns that if the under-funding does not stop that SURS could go bankrupt by 2018. That prediction was not too far off: SURS is now around 43% funded with Illinois having a total of over $111 billion in unfunded pension liabilities.
