Iowa Loses Collective Bargaining for Public Sector Employees
Iowa Republicans in charge of the legislature have passed a hastily crafted bill that strips public employees of most of their collective bargaining rights: the right to negotiate raises, health insurance, RIF language, and more. In addition, payroll deduction of dues is outlawed, and unions must recertify before every contract negotiation.
As has happened in other states that have lost collective bargaining, public sector employees can expect wages and benefits to fall. Opponents of the bill plan to challenge it in court. They have our support!
